ABOUT MYSELF
My training is in Person Centred Counselling, a form of therapy developed by Carl Rogers (1902 – 1987). It is a humanistic, holistic approach which focuses not on the symptom but on the whole person as a unique individual.
I trained at Metanoia Institute in Ealing and graduated with a diploma in Person Centred Counselling.
I am an accredited member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I adhere to the “Ethics and Codes of Practice” of BACP.
These outline a responsible, ethical, respectful and caring way of working with clients and details can be found online. For BACP's website click BACP.
I am registered with UKRCP (United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).
I am also a member of BAPCA (The British Association for the Person Centred Approach) BAPCA.
My own therapy has been maintained over a lengthy period and has included a variety of experiences.
I am committed to a programme of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and attend regularly training on a wide variety of topics which have included so far:
Bereavement
Cults
Self Harm Seminar
Anorexia & Eating Patterns
Drama Therapy
Family Constellations
Working with Older Clients
Existential Psychotherapy
Focusing
Co-dependency
Shame
Attachment Issues
********************
My earlier career in the performing arts followed training at the Rose Bruford College, where I gained a teaching diploma in Speech and Drama and also at the University of Kent where I gained a BA in English.
Now, having undertaken training as a counsellor in the second half of life, I feel I also bring life experience to the counselling relationship.
I find working as a counsellor constantly exciting, invigorating, challenging, demanding, surprising and rewarding.
