FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS COUNSELLING ?
Counselling is a period of time and work where we co-create a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space where you can address issues which may be difficult to address elsewhere. It provides a regular, reliable, usually weekly meeting.
It's a chance to be heard clearly and explore the issues which are getting in the way of you living your life as you want to.

HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP ME ?
The counselling relationship is very different from any other, in that it has no agenda other than to be of service to you. So it is an opportunity to be separate from influences from others who may wish to help, such as family and friends who may find it hard to be objective.
In the counselling relationship it is possible to identify the changes you would like to make and work together towards that end.

WHAT SORT OF ISSUES ARE APPROPRIATE FOR COUNSELLING
Counselling can be helpful with a wide variety of issues that many of us experience in life. These may include some of the following: Anxiety, stress, grief, bereavement, depression, low moods, relationship difficulties, isolation, self-harm, feeling of pointlessness, low self-esteem, transitional issues, stages of life. We may need support during times of crisis or through important life changes.

If you are unsure whether counselling may be appropriate for you, then that is something that can be discussed during our first meeting.

DOES SEEKING COUNSELLING MEAN I AM WEAK OR MENTALLY ILL ?
In my view, seeking appropriate help is a sign of strength and not of weakness. Because we feel we need help at times in our lives does not mean we are mentally ill. If you are worried there may be more to your problems than is appropriate for counselling, please check with your doctor.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ?
This depends entirely on what issues you wish to address. It is possible to help with certain issues in a short period. I offer brief therapy and also longer term work. It will be up to you to decide on the duration of the work. Naturally this will be a subject for discussion between us.
The sessions last 50 minutes and are normally once a week.

IS IT CONFIDENTIAL ?
Yes, it is. It is vital that we co-create a safe and confidential working relationship. Only under special circumstance would confidentiality be broken and these can be explained and discussed during our first meeting.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?
I am pleased to offer a half hour meeting without charge for you to discover if you feel I might be someone you could work with.

My fee after that is currently 50 per session for individual counselling and the session is 50 minutes.
My fee for couples counselling is currently 70 and the session is one hour.

I can sometimes offer a reduced fee in certain circumstances.

WHAT DO I DO NEXT ?
Phone (020.8992.5922) or email for an appointment and come and meet for an introductory and complimentary half hour. There is no commitment whatsoever.

WHEN DO I ARRIVE ?
As I have no waiting area, I ask that you arrange your journey to arrive on time.

HOW CAN I CONTACT YOU ?
Phone 020.8992.5922 or email

If you have a question not answered here, please phone and I'll do my best to give you an answer.
